Feature and accessibility improvements and fixes
Introduction
Between March 5, 2026, and March 10, 2026, several codebase updates were deployed to the Red production server. These updates are now active across all sites hosted on the live Red production server, helping ensure better compliance with current accessibility standards and enhancing usability for all visitors.
Fixes
- Main navigation: fixed overflow issue affecting the main menu on several sites. This visual bug was introduced by accessibility enhancements added in the previous release. Please reach out if your site’s main navigation menu is still broken.
- Fixed “Hide Landing Subtitle” feature. The “Hide landing subtitle from view” checkbox now hides the subtitle when checked. This subtitle can still be accessed with assistive technology.
- Seriously Simple Podcasting plugin: fixed an issue where the player wasn’t displaying.
- Gravity Forms Signature add-on: fixed an issue where it wasn’t allowing signatures.
Feature improvements
- New options for 404 Contact link. Site administrators now have control over the contact link that appears on 404 Error pages. Look for the new “404 Contact” section on the Theme Settings page. This feature includes options to include a custom email or web address and is set to “Same as main contact” by default.
- Sticky footer: added feature to disable sticky scroll tabs (sticky footer) on individual pages. The sticky footer feature can be requested by site administrators on a per-site basis.
- Updated header image documentation with cropping explanation and image selection guidelines. The homepage header section links to this best practices guide.
- Component updates: We now allow Highlight Link List, Mission, and Opportunities components on interior and landing pages.
- Component updates: We now allow Slate forms and Slate Ping components on News posts.
Accessibility improvements
- Restored landing page h1 element. This code change resolves an auto-detected best practices issue where landing pages did not render a level one heading element.
- Matched header tab focus order with its visual order. Tabbing through header links now results in the global menu, eyebrow menu, and search button receiving focus before the main navigation menu.
- Added focus indicator to Gravity Forms dropdown. Addresses a long-standing bug where dropdown input fields added via the Gravity Forms component did not render a visible outline when receiving keyboard focus. This manually-detected WCAG issue has been resolved.
- “Skip To Content” accessibility menu has been updated to v5.10.1.
These updates reflect our ongoing commitment to accessibility and usability standards. If you manage content on a Red site, no action is needed; these improvements are already live.
